All 13 employees at Archer participated in our team-building day in May, which was aimed to provide our team with an increased sense of camaraderie within the group, increasing self-confidence and employee satisfaction, as well as reducing the physical and mental stresses of modern life.
The team-building day was located at the Rotary Lodge in Greece Canal Park, and it included presentations, activities, games, and refreshments. After the hard work during the day, all the employees and their family and friends were invited to stay for a company picnic.
“We focused our activities around team-building activities and skill building that are easily transferred into the business world,” said Michelle Martorell, Creative Director and Chair of the Events Committee.
Archer finds that days like these not only energize our staff, but realizes that the collective brilliance of our talented group of individuals enable the group as a whole to establish company objectives, achieve our goals and our fulfill our clients needs.

ARCHER SAYS FAREWELL AND BEST OF LUCK TO OUR SUMMER INTERNS
Archer says goodbye to summer interns Lindsay Herbert, Michael Rodriguez, and Kerry McKee. All three were valuable assts to our team, and successfully completed a full-time internship at Archer throughout the summer of 2008.
Lindsay Herbert recently completed her undergraduate degree in communications at SUNY Brockport. Lindsay was a full time intern at Archer, and assisted with account services, copy writing, and media relations. Her hard work and desire to learn proved to be a key asset to Archer, and we wish her the best in her future career.
Kerry McKee is a senior at SUNY Brockport working towards her degree in Communications. Kerry assisted with day-to-day communications needs with Archer clients, as well as assisted in our media relations department. We wish Kerry luck completing her final year at Brockport. We will miss her quality work and enthusiastic personality.
“We were very pleased with the exceptional job our summer interns did. They all made valuable daily contributions to Archer and our clients,” states Carol Davison, Sr. VP of Client Services. “We treasure their creativity and energy and look forward to hearing about their success with future endeavors.”

FONT CONFERENCE VIDEO SHOWS YOUR FONTS AS PEOPLE, AND THEY ARE RIDICULOUS!
Some very observant people over at collegehumor.com made this original video portraying fonts as real people. The "fonts" are meeting at a font conference and all kinds of silly things start happening. We don't really think much about fonts, in our daily use of computers, we really take them for granted. But by putting them into this skit, they have brought attention to the fact that many people, including non-graphic designers, will hear the names "Times Roman" and "Comic Sans" and instantly know exactly what they are talking about. A special mention on the video goes to Windings "font" who's great representation of its gibberish made our day... "Mailbox, Open Mailbox!" Enjoy!
E-newsletters are a great and inexpensive way to stay in touch with clients, vendors and members of the community, as well as keeping them informed on both organizational news and industry trends.
Here are some high-level recommendations for a winning newsletter:
Antique Information
If the last time your site was updated is more than two years ago, then it is time to review your site and update all information. It is important to keep the information on your website current. Review your website and perform a facelift removing any dead links, old personnel, addition of products and services, etc. This will not only keep any visitor informed, but keep them coming back.
Long Download Times
The time it takes to download your site is critical. Long download times can lose a prospective customer, as well as create an annoyed client. Due to technological advances, it is standard to have your site download within 5 seconds. When evaluating this issue, be sure to consider your own patience levels when you are perusing the web. Don’t forget that the stop and back buttons are just as quickly accessible as they wait for your site.
Lack of Navigation Support
We often think that our clients know as much about us as we do; however, this will only frustrate a client or leave one confused as to how they got there. The more you make someone work to find the information they are seeking, will only make them more prone to find another site. Make sure you have clear menu structures so that any visitor to your site knows where they are and how they got there at all times.
Overload of Information
In the fast-paced world we live in today, information on your site needs to be easily accessible and organized and concise. It is critical that the copy be organized, short, concise, and clearly explain the type of business you are in and the products and services you offer to your customers.
Too Many Bells and Whistles
You want to engage a visitor in a creative manner and have a positive experience, however you do not want to have too many things going on at once or other sources of distraction. Keep interactivity simple and appropriate.

Crayola Noticing a need for safe, quality, affordable wax crayons, the company produced the first box of eight Crayola crayons, selling for a nickel in 1903. The Crayola name, coined by Edwin Binney’s wife Alice, comes from “craie,” the French word for chalk, and “ola” from “oleaginous.”
